Join Chris Johns, one of Union Street Yoga’s original teachers, in a workshop that combines anatomically intelligent yoga with the uplifting energy of Jivamukti!!
Level 4 Yoga Synergy and 800hr Advanced Certified Jivamukti yoga teacher Chris will guide you through an uplifting and energising yoga experience with an upbeat soundtrack, signature Jivamukti hands-on assists, uplifting dharma focus and intelligent use of props. He will also workshop some key postures & transitions to deepen the practitioners understanding of the concepts involved.
This workshop will help your practice feel lighter and more fluid. Chris will use bandha’s to help achieve this, describe what they are and how to create bandas in postures *. This will also help you to be safe and supported in your yoga practice. Some yoga experience required for this workshop. It will be challenging, however variations will be given so you are able to work at your own individual level.
*Bandhas can be described as a lock / seal involving a specific contraction of muscles around a joint. They help direct energy (prana) through the body as well as providing stability and strength through the muscles and joints.
Please inform Chris beforehand of any relevant medical issues or injuries and any modifications that you will be making to your practice. Also if you prefer not to receive hands on assists during the practice please let Chris know before the workshop starts.
Please arrive at least 10 minutes before start time to allow yourself sufficient time to check-in & set up for the workshop.

What is an advanced yoga practice ? What does it even mean to advance ?
A famous yogi once said “ambition shortens hamstrings” ! A crucial aspect of one’s yoga practice is to learn to understand one’s ambitions and to become comfortable and play with that special place in the yoga practice known as “the edge”. The edge is the point where the mind loses the ability to control the experience and we become more present in our practice. When we push past the edge, pain and injury result. When we learn to find our edge and become comfortable with the discomfort of not being in total control, we are able to evolve and expand.
Patanjali’s yoga sutra offers us timeless wisdom on how to move towards a state of yoga. Not only should our seat , our connection to the earth, be steady and joyful, but also we are advised to relax mental effort and focus the mind on the infinite. The ability to relax mental effort in spite of external challenging circumstances is a clear clue that we are on the right path …
This immersive retreat will provide you with the opportunity to find the edge in your practice and will workshop age old hatha yoga techniques and deep anatomical and physiology understanding to create the physical and mental support necessary to dive deeper into the practice.
Open to those with a regular yoga practice (newer practitioners practicing 2-3 times a week are also welcome).
Watch the following video for footage and testimonials from previous year’s retreats at our previous venue. Our new venue Swami’s also has fabulous food, a beautiful practice space and in addition a library, pool, gym and sauna !…
